Top Toys of 2007
Welcome to the GoKids' Ultimate Super Fantastic List of Top 10 Lists for the Holidays!
Each year web sites, retailers, bloggers and of course toy manufacturers put together a list of pre-fabricated "best seller" Top Ten Toy lists. Usually, these toys are lists of what Fisher Price, Mattel and Hasbro want you to buy, and not necessarily what you should be buying. For instance, the FurReal Pony has been on every top ten list for the past two years, not because its a great toy that you should have, but because it's a great toy that costs $200 and has a good profit margin.
These lists are usually only a single list that claims to be the all encompassing Top Ten of everything and anything you will ever need to have. They don't ask whether you have a boy or girl, what age they are, what your family interests are or even what your purchasing means are. In that sense, they are flawed and nothing more than a list of what they want to cash in on. In some cases, they are just a flash bang list to create buzz and drama for their own Top 10 Lists. This year, we have gone beyond the normal "Slap 10 things into a list and hope it gets ranked #1 on Google and Yahoo" sort of list. We have compiled many lists of different types of toys for different age groups and for boys and girls.
So lets get going on our lists. Our first group of lists are Toy lists. We have broken down toy lists into many different categories for you to browse. The items on this list are compiled from both the year's best sellers at Amazon.Com (What parents are buying) and screened and ordered by us (What parents actually should be buying).
The Top Toys of 2007
The Top Action Figures of 2007: In this list you will find the most desired action figures from our little guys. These are boys action figures for the most part.
The Top Dolls of 2007: A comprehensive list of what a girl wants under the tree this year. If you choose to skip this list, by all means, just remember two words while shopping "Hannah Montana". Nothing can go wrong.
The Top Electronics for Kids of 2007: High Tech electronics aren't just for Dad anymore. There are lots of great high tech gadgets for the wee ones and if you want to get one, choose wisely from this list.
The Top Pre School Toys of 2007: Most Top 10 Toys lists forget that children 3 and under like toys too. Pre-School toys are rarely ever found on top ten lists because they don't sell for hundreds of dollars. Find out which pre-school toys are the best on the market.
Top Board Games of 2007: Yes Milton Bradley still makes board games and just because Monopoly is available for PC, doesn't mean we shouldn't be interfacing with our kids in person at the kitchen table over a good board game.
Top Toys of 2007: Top 10 Toys for Baby: Babies are people too. Find out the most ingenious toys and systems on the market for babies.
The Top Video Games of 2007
As the old saying goes, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. The hottest product this seasons is definitely the Nintendo Wii, but since it appears we all won't be getting our kids a Wii this year, we've covered all the bases. We wish you the best when looking for the elusive "Nintendo Wii In Stock" or "We Have Nintendo Wii!" on your favorite website.
We all feel guilty about buying our kids video games where they plop themselves on the couch for hours at a time and do nothing, but there's a new generation of video games coming that encourage interaction, movement and participation. Be sure to check out our Ultimate Top 10 List of Video Games for 2007.

The Ultimate Top 10 List of Toys and Games for Kids 2007
1.
Fisher-Price Digital Arts & Crafts StudioThis is a very hard toy to find already and rightly so. This digital art studio is incredible for any artisticly inclined child with the parent tired of cleaning paint stains off the dining room table and living room carpet. I would go as far as saying that if you have a child that is into drawing and painting you are doing yourself and your child a disservice by not getting this for them.
2.
Nintendo WiiThere's no doubt that the Nintendo Wii is THE best family entertainment video game system ever made. There's also no doubt that you won't be getting one this Christmas unless you engage in very aggressive acquisition techniques such as calling Target, Walmart and K-Mart every morning at 9:01 A.M. for the next 25 days. Normally, I wouldn't include such an item on our list because they're usually fads, but the Wii is a great system with an extremely low holiday production level, so the demand is justified. I would suggested either waiting until after the holidays or going with another console system until Wii is in stock again.
3.
Fisher-Price Smart CycleWhat wouldn't we have done to have this when we were kids? This is the greatest thing you can get your winter-dormant child. They will be peddling away for hours and getting in shape with this new system from Fisher Price.
4.
FurReal Friends Butterscotch PonyJust kidding, unless you want to spend $220 on a small, yet life size and life like pony that will be in the back of the closet before your New Years party. I just figured every other toy list has this, so why not ours? Actually the real #4 toy for kid is any one of the Digital Cameras made specifially for children. These things are great. My daughter always asks to use my camera and each time I cringe that she's going to drop $300 in the mud or into the pool. Kids love cameras and these things are made almost military grade when it comes to being indestructible.
5.
Nintendo DSSo, like me, you don't want to fight with other parents for hours or nag the poor high school kid answering the phone at Target, but you want to get your child a new gaming system that has all the new and great titles. The Nintendo DS is a great system for kids because it has many titles available and acts as Nanny on long trips so you don't have to listen to the same DVD for the one hundredth time in the backseat. You are probably safe with a DS at around 5 years of age, but make sure you pick titles wisely if your child can't read.
6.
Board GamesIt's a bit risque to put anything under $100 or non-digital on these Top 10 lists these days, but we're taking the chance of ruining our reputation. Too much emphasis these days is put on sticking something in front of your child and hoping they can be entertained solo for at least an hour. Take the risk and buy some board games that will get you interacting with your kids and playing with them. I personally immensely enjoy playing board games with my daughter, nieces and nephews because it creates a bond that you really don't get from playing video games or watching movies.
7.
VTech V.Smile TV Learning SystemWe have had a VTech V.Smile learning system since last Christmas. Aside from the Jumpstart PC franchise, this is the best learning and gaming system for pre-school and kindergarten aged kids. There are many titles available from all the popular franchises such as Princess, Cars, Scooby Doo, Dora, Diego and more (view listing). Kids can play video games and learn at the same time. We chose this over the Leapster systems because children seem more comfortable with the large joysticks than the leapster light pens. There is also a traveling VTech V.Smile Pocket Learning System that uses the same cartridges as the home console version. There is also a V.Smile Baby Infant Development System.
8.
Hannah MontanaThere really isn't any specific toy to get for number 8. The general rule of thumb here is "Get all of them!". If Santa wants to be a superstar to his little girl this Christmas, he better be packing something with Hannah Montana on the box. Couldn't get tickets to Hannah in concert? Toys will more than make up for your inability to dial the phone faster than 14,000 other parents at 7am in the morning.
9.
The Dream Town Rose Petal CottageIt's the house within your house that neatly folds away into the corner, but will cost you about as much as a real house to furnish it... and you will furnish it. The picture shows mom tucking the cottage neatly away in the corner, but once you start outfitting this pad with a kitchen, washing machine and dryer, couches and more, you can forget the easy storage. In our opinion this cottage is overkill, but it's every little girl's dream gift. If you have the money and the space, you need to get this!
10.
Transformers Boys are loving the Transformers these days. In fact, Transformers are a natural age progression toy for boys that comes immediately after Power Rangers. You'll probably find Power Rangers on most other top 10 toy lists for boys, but we've gone with a solid performer instead of recycling previous year's toys in the hopes of selling out our over stocked Power Ranger inventory.
We hope you enjoyed our list and invite you to use the nifty feedback feature on the top right of this article. We will be updating this article periodically throughout the month.
