New Jersey Toys R Us - 20% off - What you should know

Toys R Us in the New Jersey area is currently running a promotion to entice customers to sign up for a Toys R Us credit card and you will receive 20% off your entire shopping order.
The catch is to get you into Toys R Us and when you pull up to the counter, they redirect you to a desk at the rear of the store. They will then make you fill out your credit card application for instant approval.

Unfortunately nobody is getting approved in several stores, this was confirmed tonight by Chase Manhattan Bank (6:30 pm 12/14/06). Chase has not approved a single customer at certain locations while they are on-site with shopping carts full of toys, regardless of credit. Both Chase and Toys R Us employees have blamed slow computer systems in certain Toys R Us retail locations on the problem.

We happen to have outstanding credit, were denied at the store, but received a card in the mail a few days later. At this point, most parents have already spent a good hour or two with a shopping cart full of toys and are reluctant to put them all back for the 20% discount.
If this happened to you, you can contact Toys R Us local managers and explain the situation. Chase will offer you 10% off your next purchase, but if you explain the situation to Toys R Us management they should be able to honor the 20% discount.

In our situation, we called the Toms River store and explained to the manager that we have already called Chase and he admitted that there have been problems and is honoring a 20% credit on items purchased on the day the card was applied for.

Although we had to fight for our 20% discount, good customer service prevailed at Toys R Us.
